Seaton Delaval Hall, Northumberland. A place of great theatricality, drama and mischief!

You are enter Seaton Delaval Hall by walking up the grand entrance. One can see how grand this Georgian Country House is and imagine the parties that happened that happened over the years!

It’s hard to imagine that this is the smallest country house built by architect Sir John Vanbrugh’s. His name might sound familiar as he also designed Castle Howard!

Every room is full of stories about the fun and frolics that have occurred in Seaton Delaval Hall for over 1000 years. Allowing guests to wake up in an upside-down room and gluing furniture to the celling to create disequilibrium just for fun. The house of Delaval certainly kept you on your toes and parting all night!

Many parts of the house is ruins but it has had many restorations over the years and starting to bring the flamboyant Delaval Family home back to life.

One thing I wish I had taken with me is a Picnic and spent more time at Seaton Delaval Hall. We left to get food. It was Sunday and we were craving a good roast dinner. There is a cafe onsite, but there is not much variety for my family, and it is quite expensive. I should have known better, but we also didn’t realise how much there was to do here.

The gardens, house and playpark can be enough for you to take a full day off technology and enjoy the history of Seaton Delaval Hall.

It took no more than an hour to walk to Seaton Delaval Hall from Whitley Bay Parkdean Caravan Park going at a speed that the children could keep up.

Did you know that Seaton Delaval Hall has been used many times as a filming location and you may have noticed it in Catherine Cooksons ‘Black Velvet Gown’ and if like me brought up in the 80’s/90’s from BBC Educational Programme ‘Geordie Racer’ take a look and you can see the changes that have occurred over the decades.
