We are very lucky to have lots of wildlife visit us in our garden. And would love many to visit you too! why not have a go at making a bird feeder?

What you will need:

  • Empty milk bottle
  • Scissors
  • Marker pen
  • String
  • Kebab Sticks/Chop Sticks or similar
  • Bird Feed

Step 1

Mark out a square either side of you milk bottle. You can get creative if you would like with other shapes.

Step 2

Cut your shape out. This can be very sharp and tricky to start off, so please ask an adult to help you.

Step 3

Make two holes and push your sticks through. Some birds might appreciate the extra branch.

Step 4

We need to make a little handle to hang it so tie the string around the neck of the bottle, very similar as tying your shoelaces.

Step 5

Screw your top back on and hang your creation on a tree.

Step 6

Fill with food safe for the wildlife.

Now let’s see who visits!

Can you make a tally sheet to keep track? Experiment with different shapes and safe foods? What about placing them in different areas? Which one do they prefer?
