To Hull and Back!

Hull home to the largest suspension bridge in the UK but apart from passing through to catch a P&O mini cruise is there anything more to Hull and what is there for families to do?

We arrived via Train from Woodlesford taking around 2hrs at 10am excited for a day exploring Hull.

Starting with Ferens Art Gallery perfect size for children to explore and even had a inside breakout area for them to let off steam. It also has an Henry Moore sculpture too!

Afterwards we visited the Marina and walked besides the Humber to Scale Lane Bridge; the first bridge in the world to allow pedestrians to remain on the bridge while it is in motion which is a great place to sit and eat your packed lunch.

We then walked to Museum Quarter 3 museums next door to each other and you don’t pay to get in! That’s right all for FREE (donations are encouraged) you can spend a full day in these Museums alone.

Street Life Museum with its very own vintage 20p arcade

Wilberforce House Museum

Lots of text heavy material I don’t think the twins understood anything inside but my eldest is currently learning about William Wilberforce and found it fascinating.

Every trip we try to bring lunch with us and eat dinner out. It helps save some money and also gives us freedom throughout the day. I don’t know about you but we find it hard to find places to fit us all in the best of times never mind places we don’t know. But we found this gem Yankee Land. Lots of space, welcoming staff and great tasting food at a very reasonable price. Cost us £42 for 6 of us with drinks!

We did see lots of lovely places to eat at the Marina but they were too small to accommodate us all inside but in summer there’s seating outside to take full advantage of the weather and views!

We have always loved Only Fools and Horses and one of our favorite episodes is Hull and Back of course we visited the filming locations whilst we were in Hull. We managed all but the Docks as the area is full of road closures and re-routed traffic so we were unable find anywhere to cross which is a shame but theres always next time!

Here’s a few pictures of the filming locations in 1985 and how they look now in 2024.

We have been to Hull and we will be returning back!
