We would love to visit Lotherton Hall more often it’s not far from us but unfortunatley no route for people who walk or use public transport so we have jumped into Aunties car.
I often visited here with my Grandad who was a gardener here in the 80’s, feeding the horses and running around the bird garden to see my favorites the owls!
Many things have changed over the years the main one is that the Bird Garden is now called Wildlife World!
£82.50 will get you entry for a family of 6 for the year. That includes access to the House, Chapel, Bird Garden, Gardens, and Play Park.
When we visited there was an event on the field where we met up with our Balloon Modeler friend Tom giving away free balloons for the kids. There were also stalls and rides to take full advantage of.
Lotherton Hall has lots of family friendly events running throughout the year check out their website https://museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk/lotherton
Wildlife World has had new additions join the flock over the years. As you walk in through the new entrance way pink Flamingos still welcome you but now they are joined by new friends including Penguins who are in the large enclosure as you walk in.
The Bird Garden is under construction like most places it’s hard to keep up with the maintenance required and some enclosures were waiting for new occupants but it’s a lovely Bird Garden to visit and included in the price.
The house is grand and at the moment only the ground floor is open. Next visit I will be taking full advantage of the views from upstairs. The Gascoigne Family truly had the most beautiful houses in Yorkshire!
Note you have to leave your pushchair in the bay you cannot bring into the house but inside you will find lockers you can place your items in so you can be hands free as possible when viewing the house.
In the courtyard you will find old carriages owned by the Gascoigne Family and the Cafe where you will find a selection of food to suit most. We opted for a Cuppa Tea, Jacket Potato, Cheese and Colesaw each was lovely along with a children’s packed lunch. We paid £6 for a children’s lunch box and ours was around £10 each. It seems many of Leeds City Museums have the same or similar prices.
The gardens are lovely, and you could spend all day exploring Lotherton Hall and still return not seeing everything.
