We live near the tracks and with one son totally obsessed with Trains.
We have spent many hours Trainspotting!
Free to do, if you keep to the rules, you will stay safe. It’s a fun way to pass the time. Now I wouldn’t recommend going to Kings Cross and sitting on the platform for hours on end but if you have a village station nearby it is worth watching the trains passing by. Some may charge you a little something to access the platform, but many have areas you can view without even entering the Station. Just remember to always stay behind the line, preferably behind a railing and watch them pass by from a safe distance.

We see lots of different types of Trains pass us by at Woodlesford Train Station. The Northern Trains always stop here, Transpennine Express zooms past to get commuters into the city, Grand Central toots to us as we go to school and freight trains are noisily speeding passing us with cargo. They go that fast we cannot keep up when we count how many waggons the engine is pulling.

It’s a great way to teach maths and science without them knowing! Tally charts, counting, telling the time, cause and effect. Something so simple will improve their knowledge. Even a short trip would be worth it as we don’t pay for children under 5.
You never know you might even catch a glimpse of one of the most famous trains, okay behind Thomas the Tank Engine, the Flying Scotsman!
Make sure you stay safe and enjoy your Trainspotting!
